I’m what I have always called a visual journalist and data visualization expert. It’s been a lifelong combination of techniques. I was the kid in grade school who, when he turned in a written report, always included an original drawing related to the topic.
I graduated from the Medill School of Journalism, at Northwestern University and immediately started a career in newspapering, on the visual tasks side of the newsroom. I am a veteran of eight newsrooms of every size strata, tallying up 30 years of daily journalism experience, focused on visual content.
My experience set includes traditional reporting, news editing, page design, copy editing, graphics composition, cartography, thematic illustration, creation of large scale graphics projects, breaking news reaction, deadline work, on-scene graphics reporting, photo editing, writing of graphics copy, and graphics staff supervision.
